Mindspace
A Mindspace mind map

Mindspace, an open source tool for thinking, feeling, and connecting. It's intended for people who appreciate privacy, simplicity, and fun! Eventually, it will optionally become a multi-player visual aid for conversation and decision-making.

One of the philosophies of Mindspace is the two-phase diverge / converge cycle. When you begin thinking or feeling about an idea, you often want to explore connections. Afterwards, when there is more clarity and certainty, you want to establish connections more concretely. Mindspace represents these phases by making it easy to re-arrange dynamic connections during the divergence phase, and then bump notes together to lose the dynamic connections and replace them only with specific, concrete ones.

We're exploring new user interface concepts in Mindspace:

  • Long-pressing or double-tapping creates a circle note.
  • When you type more than a few letters into the circle, it changes into a pill shape to make room, and then into a rounded rectangle if necessary.
  • You can drag notes around with a single tap/drag motion.
  • You may notice the rainbow border--you can dip notes into the rainbow to change their color!
  • Bumping notes together establishes a strong, thick link. Once strongly connected, any weaker dynamic (exploratory) connections are removed.
  • If you want to delete a connection, tap and drag it until it breaks.
  • If you want to delete a note, long press followed by tap (TODO; for now, press backspace/delete on the keyboard).

For now, notes are saved locally, but eventually, for multiplayer mode, they will also transit a server where they will be saved for all parties.

Mindspace is open source and available on github. The latest version is published at https://mindspace.halecraft.org.
